Reading recommendation: Samuel Adams, A Life

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

By Beverly Owings, Escondido, Calif. / February 5, 2013

Founding Father Samuel Adams was in the history books in school when I was a girl but I never thought of him one way or another. Samuel Adams: A Life by Ira Stoll draws a picture of an energetic, outgoing, bombastic evangelizer, patriot, and royal pain in the neck to his proper cousin, John Adams, as well as many others, but a hero to people fed up with the presence of the Red Coats. I really like this book.
