Reader recommendation: High Steel
Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.
Ironworkers are literally the "Cowboys of the Sky," as detailed in Jim Rasenberger's book, High Steel. The book dispels some of the myths about ironworkers (for instance, that Mohawk Indians are naturally unafraid of heights) while giving the reader a unique insight into the men responsible for helping build today's skyscrapers and bridges. They are also some of the unsung heroes of the aftermath of 9/11, helping to untangle the destruction of the World Trade Center.
