I’m taking a second look at John Dos Passos’s “USA” trilogy, starting with The 42nd Parallel. When Dos Passos wrote this in the late 1920s, he saw the United States as “two nations” – one for the privileged and one of the powerless. The more things change, the more they remain the same.
