Reader recommendation: Empire of the Summer Moon
Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.
The focus of S.C. Gwynne’s superbly written Empire of the Summer Moon is the great Comanche chief Quanah Parker and the life of his mother, Cynthia Ann (Audah) Parker, a white woman. Equally fascinating is the book’s history of the Southwest and the Comanches’ long resistance to Western settlers and the Texas Rangers.
