I’m currently reading Doc, a novel by Mary Doria Russell that’s full of wonderful detail about America’s Old West and its characters. I just finished Russell’s earlier novel "A Thread of Grace," which is about the Roman Catholics who hid Jews from the Nazis in the Piedmont region of Italy from 1943 to 1945.
