Reader recommendation: Matterhorn
Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.
I recently read Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes, a gripping novel about the Vietnam War written by a man who was a first lieutenant in combat there. I heard Marlantes talk about this book, his first, and felt compelled to read it. It is profound and moving, leaving me with a deep respect for men and women who go into combat and a question: Why do humans still send their children and loved ones to war?
