Tyler's novel follows Aaron, whose wife is killed unexpectedly when a tree falls on their home. Devastated, Aaron is consoled as his wife Dorothy begins appearing in odd locations – on the street, in the supermarket – and then struggles with the question of how to let go of the past and move on with his life.
