10 best books for readers ages 7 to 9
Ten delightful literary adventures for young readers aged 7 to 9.
2. 'Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing,' by Judy Blume
Young Peter Hatcher is the prototypical older sibling: forced to bear the burden of guidance for his rambunctious three-year-old brother, a role which he finds unbearable. Little Fudge may be cute to adults, but to Peter – who wants nothing more than to go to the playground untethered, or retreat peacefully to his room with his turtle, Dribble – Fudge is a menace. Blume's story perfectly captures the mindset of a youngster who can't help but think that adults "just don't get it."
