10 best adult books for teens
The Alex Awards are given each year to 10 adult books judged most likely to appeal to teen audiences. Here are the 2011 winners: zombies, vampires, and lemon cake – oh my!
1. The Reapers Are the Angels, by Alden Bell
“The Reapers Are the Angels,” by Alden Bell (Holt, 240 pp.) chronicles one girl's post-apocalyptic journey through a decomposed American South. In this novel that has been described as "Flannery O'Connor with zombies," the young protagonist, Temple, is not concerned with the history of her zombie-infested world. Surviving in the present requires all her effort when another human becomes her greatest threat. A Library Journal writer called "The Reapers Are the Angels" "the most beautiful book about zombies this reviewer has ever read."
