Gavin Blair has been covering Japan for The Christian Science Monitor since the beginning of 2010, and has been writing about the country since the turn of the millennium. He has traveled from Okinawa to Hokkaido, reporting on topics including the shifts in Japan's economy, its revolving door political leadership, the yakuza mafia, sports, and Japan's complex culture. He spent more than a month after the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent nuclear accident reporting from the length of the stricken northeast coast.

Gavin has a BSc in Psychology from Loughborough University and MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Exeter, both in his native United Kingdom. As well as the Monitor, he covers the Japanese entertainment industry for The Hollywood Reporter and reports on Japan for France 24 TV, as well as writing for other publications in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
