Tubegazing: Robin Hood

The BBC premieres a Robin of Locksley for the 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' set, and it's not all bad.

Robin Hood (BBC America, March 3, 9 p.m.): Is nothing sacred? First Superman, now Robin Hood. Mythic heroes reimagined with, gasp, no tights? Never mind. This really is a Robin of Locksley for the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" generation, where the true sex appeal is in the Zen-like wisdom and zingy swordplay of the ridiculously youthful (but charming) star, Jonas Armstrong. Shot in Hungary, the new "Robin Hood" deftly spins a dreadful tale of a time when kings sent young men to fight irrational wars. This one happens to be set in the Middle Ages. Grade: A
