My Wife the Gardener

By

You bring home plants
the names of which I do not know –
though I have learned to say hosta
and rhododendron because I like
the exotic sound of the first one
and the way my tongue takes little
steps approaching plant number two,
but all I have to know I can mouth
when I see your back bent digging,
Love and happiness, love and happiness.
