It's in move-in condition

By all accounts, London is one of the three most expensive cities in the world in which to live. And if the following is any indication, it's no wonder. On the market in the Shepherds Bush neighborhood is a house that realtors say is the narrowest any of them can remember offering for sale. A onetime hat shop, it's an inch under 10 feet at the widest point, tapering to a hair over 5 feet. Yet it has a parlor, three bedrooms, a kitchen, bath, dining area, and roof terrace , among other amenities. "Utterly amazing and almost certainly unique," reads the promotional listing. But if you want it, you'll have to dig deep. The asking price: $900,000.

School buildings that send an environmental message

When the editors of "The Green Guide," a news and information source for green living, size up a school, they look to see how ecofriendly and energy efficient it is. They like schools that use recycled, nontoxic building materials, solar panels, organic food, rainwater irrigation, pesticide-free landscaping, and possibly even windmills for power generation. To encourage such choices, the guide has compiled a list of the top 10 green schools in the United States. The schools and their locations:

Clackamas High School
Clackamas, Ore.

Clearview Elementary School
Hanover, Pa.

Goodwillie Environmental School
Ada, Mich.

Lick-Wilmerding High School
San Francisco

John M. Langston High School Continuation and Langston-Brown Community Center
Arlington, Va.

Michael E. Capuano Early Childhood Center
Somerville, Mass.

Case Middle School
Honolulu

Sakai Intermediate School
Statesville, N.C.

The Willow School
Gladstone, N.J.
