A story on protecting a Civil War battle site (Dec. 13, page 2) named the wrong commander for Union troops. Gen. John Pope headed the Army of Virginia during the second battle of Bull Run, or Manassas, after which he was fired.

A story on the public's perception of fairness in the presidential election (Dec. 5, page 2) mistakenly referred to another tight presidential race between John Quincy Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Adams's opponent in that race was Andrew Jackson; it was his father, John Adams, who ran against Jefferson.
