Dishing the dirt

If you thought dishwashers were simply for getting plates, glasses, pots, pans, and silverware clean, think again.

A recent Jenn-Air Come Clean Survey revealed that many people have come up with creative - although not recommended - uses for the popular appliance. They have utilized it to hard-boil eggs, steam potatoes, carrots, and salmon, and even defrost the Thanksgiving turkey.

Among the most unexpected items cleaned in a dishwasher: baby toys, baseball caps, yard tools, eyeglasses, car parts, combs, toothbrushes, pantyhose, and plastic flowers.
