Mr. Talbot, a Christian Science teacher and practitioner, has served the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in a wide variety of positions including manager of Committees on Publication, associate editor of the religious periodicals, member of the Board of Lectureship, and president of The Mother Church.

Talbot succeeds Hallock G. Davis Jr., who resigned in June after six years on the board. In a statement, the trustees said Mr. Davis, a business executive from Newport Beach, Calif., was "a great aid to the Society during this period of adjustment and progress."
