BOSTON — This past year Monitor photographers have traveled from remote villages along the Caspian Sea to crowded Asian cities; from Australia's arid outback to the tropical wilds of the Amazon; and from fairgrounds in Great Britain to the steamy Everglades. Choosing some of their favorite shots, they remembered not just the landscape and the light, but the people. Playful, proud, peaceful, determined, or contemplative, their lives revealed these special moments captured by the careful click of a shutter. How does a photographer make a memorable picture? Sometimes it's a matter of patience, or a game of try-try again. Other times it's simply being at the right place at the right time - with the right lens.
