A Prayer for Russia's New Government
A program I recently saw on television discussed problems the government and people of Russia have been having. I wanted to pray for Russia daily. And I started this the next day, with a desire to help this country.
Russia had been presented as left out, confused, and floundering -- filled with sad people. My prayer, based on the teaching of Christian Science, sought to prove that Russia and its people are under the control of one governing force alone -- God. The program had shown the Russians falling prey to drugs, alcohol, and poverty, and the government unable to do anything about it. Wanting to see what God was revealing, as the creator of all things, I began with thoughts such as these:
"Dear God of us all, I know that Russia is not without a government. It is not lacking in social, moral, and spiritual laws. This is because it is under the same government as the rest of Your creation, the government of divine Love itself.
"This government is the one, perfect government of the universe, a government that never rules out of fear or hatred. Its military is Love, and its soldiers are angels -- thoughts from You. Your intelligence is the basis for sound laws.
"Russia's people are not cursed, sickly, or dying; its people are Your children, under Your care. Your care is ever with Your children, guiding them in the right way. All people are under the administration of Love. Russia's ground is blessed, not cursed.
"Because You are Soul, Your grandeur and inspiration are accessible to all, not just to an elite few. All who turn to You will find beauty and harmony.
"God, You are Truth. The Bible says Your people are 'hid with Christ in God' (Colossians 3:3). So no one in Russia can ever be separated from or led outside of Your righteous direction. Because You are omnipotent, Russia is not subject to conspiracy. It is grounded in integrity, trust, and inspiration. Mistrust and corruption are not there.
"These declarations are based on Your perfection. Because You are perfect, we, Your children, are perfect, no matter what our nationality, race, color, or creed. All of us can express Your intelligence and well-being in our daily lives. You are showing us the way.
"Because You are the source of all good, abundance is possible for the Russian people to find daily, as they know You. No lack of anything good exists in Your kingdom of heaven. We can see this by understanding it, for as Christ Jesus said, 'Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand' (Matthew 3:2). Your provision is at hand, attainable here and now for all of us.
"You are Life itself. Russia is under the influence of Life. Russia is being led by the forces of wholeness, not of disintegration, decay, or death. Under You, it is not possible for civilization to be in decline. Because You reign, this is impossible.
"You can never be dethroned or voted out. Your kingdom can never be taken. Your people can never be removed, lost, or fooled. I thank You for waking everyone to these facts. None of us can truly be fooled into believing in any other government or law but Yours."
I remembered a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This book was written by the woman who discovered Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, and supplied much of the understanding on which I had based my prayer. It says: "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, 'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, -- whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing than can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed" (p. 340).
You can pray with these ideas to support the well-being of any country. Mrs. Eddy founded this newspaper so that its readers could help pray for the world. Whatever is presented in news reports, prayer can and does help the world.
