LINCOLN CENTER ALSO OPENED 'PANDORA'S BOX'

In addition to hosting the festival, Lincoln Center was recently the site of G.W. Pabst's silent film ''Pandora's Box'' with music by the Club Foot Orchestra of San Francisco.

''Pandora's Box'' is the story of a free-spirited young woman whose magnetic charm leads first to power, then to decadence, and finally to a tragic fate at Jack the Ripper's hands. Louise Brooks's portrayal of the title character is one of the most celebrated female performances of the silent-film era, and Pabst uses nuances of light, movement, and montage to captivating effect.

The Club Foot Orchestra assembles accompaniments from its 10 members, producing polished results and enhancing the film's power while retaining aesthetic interest of its own.
