House Sparrows

They cannot sing

like finches; a few

chirps are the norm,

a twitter or two.

They haven't the flair

of a cardinal;

their raiment is neat,

not colorful.

Yet they can turn

the day's doldrums

to joy as they feast

on a handful of crumbs.
