WORTH NOTING ON TV

* SATURDAY

Figure skating: If you'd like to see Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan do what they do best - rather than watch another news item on legal developments - take your pick of two different network skating shows:

Wide World of Sports (ABC, 4:30-6 p.m.) offers an exhibition by members of the United States Olympic team and other medalists. At press time the list included Harding - ladies champion at last month's US Figure Skating Championships (where Kerrigan was clubbed on the knee by an attacker) and recently named to the US Olympic figure skating team. The show also features clips of a previous performance by Kerrigan, also named to the Olympic team.

Nancy Kerrigan & Friends (CBS, 9-10 p.m.) features Kerrigan's return to the ice on prime time, a heartening sign of recovery from her knee injury. Taped Friday in Matthews Arena at Boston's Northeastern University, the exhibition is designed to let Kerrigan skate before a crowd prior to her Olympic competition in Norway later this month. Olympic silver medalist Paul Wylie will also perform.

Skates of Gold (ABC, 8-10 p.m.) will not include Harding or Kerrigan: From the Boston Garden, the program presents an evening devoted exclusively to Olympic gold-medal winners, including Brian Boitano, Kristi Yamaguchi, Katarina Witt, Viktor Petrenko, Scott Hamilton, and Peggy Fleming.

National Press Club (C-Span, 10-11 a.m.): Speech by House majority leader Richard Gephardt (D) of Missouri.

* MONDAY

American Music Awards (ABC, 8 p.m., EST, to conclusion): The gamut of today's pop categories are covered one way or another in this live awards show - rock, country, soul, rhythm & blues, heavy metal, rap, hip hop, and adult contemporary.

This year's hosts are familiar names: Will Smith, Reba McEntire, and Meat Loaf. The artists performing are also among today's hottest talents: Michael Bolton, Whitney Houston, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Rod Stewart, Toni Braxton, Brooks & Dunn, and on and on.
