First Frost

Fallen leaves of maple, birch, and oak, all outlined in the cold, electric dust. Garden fruit, wreathed in a sepal crowned again in white: Summer ends in a beautiful cataclysm burning its overabundance, preparing a place for the crusted and skeletal, the attention demanded by winter, dormant forms and fluids flowing slowly below the visible.
