WORTH NOTING ON TV

SUNDAY

Great Weather

Catastrophes (The Weather Channel, 8:00-8:30 p.m.): Over the last 100 years, nature has unleashed a number of blockbuster storms. This documentary shows footage of the worst storms to hit North America since 1888 and examines the progress made - via technology, better forecasting, and safeguards - in preventing casualties and damage. The program includes an interview filmed more than 40 years ago with a survivor of the 1889 Johnstown Flood, as well as a family from Islamorada, Fla., whose home was moved two miles during the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane.

Harlow: The Blonde Bombshell (TNT, 10:00-11:00 p.m.): Sharon Stone hosts this one-hour special on Jean Harlow, a Hollywood sex symbol in the 1930s. The program uses clips of her movies and other events to tell her story. Though tame by today's standards, Harlow's sensual screen heroines shocked audiences at the time and changed the depiction of female sexuality in Hollywood. Like many other actresses, Harlow was a victim of Hollywood money-mongers who manipulated her career and treated her like a product . 'Harlow' provides a peek into the short life - she died at age 26 - of a legendary actress, though it seems a bit hastily put together. While Sharon Stone is a competent host, it is evident she is reading from something off-camera.

Barcelona '92: 16 Days of Glory (The Discovery Channel, 9:00-11:15 p.m.): In his fourth documentary on the Olympic games, Bud Greenspan focuses on 10 athletes at the summer games in Barcelona. US sprinter Evelyn Ashford and Canadian rower Silken Laumann are among those profiled.

National Governors' Association Annual Meeting (C-Span, 10:00 a.m.-6 p.m.): Governors meet to discuss issues involving their states. Viewers can call in to talk directly to governors.
