WORTH NOTING ON TV

FRIDAY

...talking with David Frost

(PBS, 9-10 p.m.): The day after it was announced that his film `The Unforgiven' had received nine Oscar nominations - a tie for the most - actor Clint Eastwood was interviewed by a man as different from his own tough image as can be imagined. The interviewer was the urbane David Frost - make that Sir David Frost - whose deceptively avuncular style can cut gently through layers of his guests' psychic self-defense. The payoff for viewers in these long gab session comes when guests grapple with themes untap ped by the formula interviews conducted on most talk shows. In this case, Frost asks Eastwood about the violence in his films, his religious attitudes, his work as a director, and how he made `The Unforgiven,' which Eastwood stars in, directed, and produced.

Soap Opera Awards

(NBC, 9-11 p.m., ET): The ninth edition of this celebration of daytime drama airs live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. A long list of celebrities and almost-so are slated to hand out prizes. The hosts are Deidre Hall of NBC's `Days of Our Lives' and Paul Reiser of that network's `Mad About You.' (Wait a minute! That's not a soap - it's a prime-time sitcom. Oh, well....) SATURDAY

National Press Club talk
