UN NOTES SALVADORAN VIOLATIONS OF PEACE ACCORD

Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali reported Jan. 1 that personnel changes in the Salvadoran military failed to comply with President Alfredo Cristiani's promise to cashier a number of alleged human rights violators.

Under a United Nations-mediated peace accord, a list of personnel drawn up by an Ad-Hoc Commission on the purification of the armed forces was to be purged by the end of 1992. But a statement issued by a UN spokesman said a press bulletin from the Salvadoran Defense Ministry did not conform with this requirement. President Cristiani, apparently bowing to military pressure, announced personnel changes in the armed forces Thursday but left untouched dozens of officers named as rights abusers by the commiss ion.
