The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims rose to 414,000 during the week ending Sept. 12, the Labor Department reported yesterday. It was the highest number in five weeks. Job losses from Hurricanes Andrew and Iniki were faulted.... Consumer caution held economic growth in the April-June quarter to an anemic 1.5 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said yesterday. Analysts had estimated growth would be 1.4 percent....
