1.8 BILLION T-SHIRTS SOLD IN US

* American consumers purchased 1.8 billion T-shirts from April 1990 to April 1991, according to Impressions trade magazine and New Age Graphics.

Those aged 21 to 30 are the largest purchasers of T-shirts, comprising 37 percent of the market. Women in these age group bought an average of 9.3 T-shirts over a 12-month period, while men bought 8.3.

Teens represent the second highest group at 26 percent of the market.
