SOFTWARE PIRACY COST FIRMS $2.4 BILLION IN 1990

The amount of revenue lost to software piracy in the United States in 1990 was $2.4 billion, compared to $2.5 billion for 1989, $2.9 billion for 1988, and $2.3 billion for 1987, according to the Software Publishers Association.Although these numbers exceed previous estimates, there is a bright spot for software manufactures. Over the last four years, business software units sold per DOS machine have increased from 1.31 in 1987 to 1.78 in 1990. For the same period, business software units sold per Macintosh computer increased from 2.03 to 2.55.
