BUSH NOMINATES AMBASSADOR TO TURKEY

President Bush announced yesterday he intends to nominate Richard Barkley, the former US ambassador to East Germany, as the new ambassador to Turkey.Bush, who made the announcement while touring Istanbul with Turkish President Turgut Ozal, said Mr. Barkley would succeed Ambassador Morton Abramowitz following his confirmation. Barkley is currently a visiting fellow at the National Defense University in Washington.
