NEW YORK — The entertainment industry tops the list of Japanese investments in the United States. Over $12 billion has been spent since 1985 in this business, according to the magazine Business Tokyo. The computer industry received the most interest in terms of number of deals. California was the most active state for Japanese investment in 1990, with over 60 deals.
While the number of Japanese investments in US firms has gone up, the dollar value for each deal has been dropping. In 1990, the median investment was $8.5 million, down from $23 million in 1988.
