FIRST LADY GIVES THUMBS-UP STATUS REPORT ON BUSH

Barbara Bush delivered an upbeat report on the president yesterday, following his hospitalization on Saturday for what doctors diagnosed as an irregular heartbeat. ``He looks great,'' she said. ``He's had no pain, no strain, no nothing.'' She spoke as she left Bethesda Naval Hospital, where she had spent the night with her husband.

Vice President Dan Quayle phoned Bush Saturday evening and said they had a ``lighthearted'' conversation, and Bush even raised some business matt ers.
