Recipes from the stars

Out of dozens of recipes in the Beverly Hills Woman's Club cookbook - from basic to salient - here is a sampling from three stars and a surprise contributor. Casaba Melon Cocktail

Slice casaba melon, squeeze a little lime juice over it and sprinkle a bit of paprika on it.

ZaSu Pitts Salad

Make a bed of shredded lettuce on a salad plate. In the center place a mound of chopped chicken and celery. Around the edges of the plate arrange a circle of thinly sliced tomatoes. French dressing or mayonnaise may be served with this.

Joan Crawford Caramel Tomatoes

From our President's wife at the White House.

Select six even sized tomatoes, not too ripe; cut off point end and take out bit of pulp. Fill with butter size of nutmeg and two heaping tablespoons of sugar to each tomato. Sprinkle with salt to taste. Bake 45 minutes in slow oven or until the juice becomes a caramel brown. Place tomatoes on square of toast and pour caramel over them, the caramel being the juice that has collected in the bottom of the pan while the tomatoes are baking. (Wishing you much success in your cookbook venture.)
