Liberty Weekend events

Thursday, July 3 Operation Sail's (OpSail) International Naval Review of tall ships from Verrazano Bridge to George Washington Bridge (11 a.m.-4 p.m.).

Opening ceremony and unveiling of refurbished Statue of Liberty from the USS John F. Kennedy (invited guests only), telecast in US and abroad (9 p.m.-11 p.m.). President Reagan will begin the ceremony with the push of a button, lighting a string of lights that will begin at the aircraft carrier and move across water to the statue.

On Ellis Island 5,000 people will be sworn in as citizens of the United States, and 20,000 more will be sworn in at other locations via satellite. Friday, July 4

OpSail's ``Parade of Sail'' in New York Harbor and on the Hudson River, returning to Liberty Island (11 a.m.-4 p.m.).

Official Liberty Weekend Land Celebration throughout Lower Manhattan, with entertainment, food, crafts, walking tours, and more (9 a.m.-11 p.m.).

Fireworks Spectacular in New York Harbor (9:30 p.m.). Saturday, July 5

Open-house visits to OpSail's tall ships and naval vessels. Statue of Liberty open to the public. Events on aboard ships and on shore.

Harbor Festival, New York Fair, and New Jersey Fair (noon-7 p.m.).

Concert with New York Philharmonic in Central Park (8 p.m.-10 m.). Additional events will be announced in June.
