Supermania

FOR the New England Patriots, facing the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX was like being caught out in the middle of the Windy City's pell-mell Kennedy Expressway without a car -- or a helmet. The Bears proved themselves the masters of the gridiron this year, with their strong season and Sunday's 46-10 romp. They deserve their moment of glory. The Patriots can take comfort in becoming only the third wild-card team to make it to the Super Bowl.

Now that the season is, mercifully, behind us, some questions need asking: Hasn't the Super Bowl hype really gone too far? Have not sky-high football tickets left most fans out in the cold, certainly out of the stadiums? Why is there no roster of black head coaches for teams that are heavily minority in composition? The current imbalance in pro football runs deeper than the rout seen on the field Sunday.
