Iraqi official says he's willing for Arabs to seek Israeli peace

Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz said here Tuesday that if Arab countries and the Palestinian settlements around Israel want to make peace, his government ''will not stand against that.'' But he said that Israel has committed ''many acts of aggression against the Arabs'' and that Iraq could not consider establishing relations.

Monday's renewal of diplomatic ties between Iraq and the United States after 17 years has prompted some Iraqis to anticipate a speedier end to the war with Iran. ''It is the best news I have heard in four years,'' a supermarket owner in Baghdad said. ''The Americans will now force an end to the war with Iran.''
