US and Iraq renew diplomatic relations

The United States and Iraq reestablished diplomatic relations Monday after a break of 17 years. A White House announcement after a meeting between President Reagan and visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Tareq Aziz said ambassadors would be appointed ''as promptly as possible.''

Iraq broke ties after the 1967 Middle East War in protest against US support for Israel.
