Thai and Viet forces trade artillery volleys at border

Thai and Vietnamese forces exchanged artillery fire across their border as Kampuchean rebels counter-attacked Vietnamese troops who had captured a portion of the Nong Chan rebel camp near the border, a Thai military commander said Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Salya Sriphen, commander of the border security force, said Thai gunners fired 20 artillery rounds into Kampuchea in retaliation against shelling that landed up to a mile inside Thai territory near the seesaw battle for the rebel camp.
