Biology group says consumers should know about sulfite use

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology recommended Monday that food-package labels and restaurant notices inform consumers of foods containing sulfites. It warned that the commonly used preservative could have negative effects on some people.

The study, commissioned by the Food and Drug Administration, did not recommend a ban on sulfites, but said further study was needed.
