Korean students protest presidential visit to Japan

Shouting anti-Japanese slogans, about 500 students demonstrated Tuesday at Seoul's Sungkyunkwan University against President Chun Doo Hwan's trip to Tokyo this week. The visit, from Thursday through Saturday, will be the first official one by a Korean president to Japan.

Bitter memories of Japan's 1910-1945 colonial rule over the Korean Peninsula remain here. Diplomatic ties between Seoul and Tokyo were established in 1965.
