Personal income - earnings before income taxes - rose 0.8 percent in July, the Commerce Department said Friday. Take-home pay also increased by $79, for an annual income running at $10,928 for every American.

Spending by individuals also went up last month, reaching an annual level of by individuals of $9,930.

Americans saved more, too, putting an extra $54 in the bank. Annual per capita savings stood at $665, the department reported.
