Solidarity report calls new Polish unions ineffective

A report by underground Solidarity leaders to the International Labor Organization (ILO) has derided Poland's new government-sponsored trade unions as weak, ineffective, and unrepresentative.

The document, dated June 2 and just released to the press by the underground, urged continued international pressure on the Communist authorities to relax political repression.

The ILO is expected, on the basis of the Solidarity report, to accuse Poland of repression, imprisonment of workers and failure to observe labor conventions, informed sources said.
