Paraguay expels members of human-rights group

Five members of the Washington-based human-rights organization Americas Watch were expelled from Paraguay Saturday a few hours after they arrived here, according to opposition sources. (United States Embassy sources said Sunday that those expelled had refused to allow police to photocopy documents they were carrying.) Government officials declined comment.

The sources identified those expelled as Orville Schell, president of Americas Watch; Stefen Kass, head of the New York City Bar Association's inter-American affairs committee; former Judge Marvin Frankel; Scott Grethead, chairman of the New York Bar Association's human-rights committee, and Patricia Dittman, secretary of the Americas Watch office in Buenos Aires.
