Two commercial airliners hijacked to Cuba in day

A Delta Airlines Boeing 727, en route from New Orleans to Dallas, was hijacked Wednesday night to Cuba. A lone hijacker was taken immediately into custody at Havana's Jose Marti Airport, a Cuban airport security officer said. The plane and its passengers returned safely to Miami early Thursday morning.

The incident was the second hijacking of a US airliner in 36 hours. A Piedmont Airlines Boeing 737 on a flight from Newark, N.J., to Miami was diverted to Cuba on Tuesday afternoon. The plane returned from Havana less than four hours later.
