Iran asks UN to check poison-gas allegation

Iran has asked the United Nations to investigate what it called Iraq's use of chemical weapons in the Gulf war. Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati sent a note to the United Nations calling on it to send experts to study Iraqi use of chemical weapons on Iranian towns and cities, the Iranian national news agency IRNA reported Sunday night.

An Austrian doctor said Sunday that 10 Iranian soldiers who arrived for treatment in Vienna Friday from the southern war front were probably poison-gas victims.

Iraq denies using chemical weapons in the 41-month-old war.
