Egypt accepts offer to rejoin Islamic group

A high-level Islamic Conference Organization (ICO) mission formally invited Egypt Monday to rejoin five years after it was banished for signing a peace treaty with Israel - and Egypt promptly accepted.

Egypt's consent to retake its seat in the 45-nation group came during a two-hour meeting between conference representatives and Egyptian officials led by President Hosni Mubarak, who pledged commitment to the organization's charter.
