Spanish Socialists to trim 6,500 officers from Army

Spain's Socialist government has approved plans to sharply reduce the number of Army officers and raise Army pay by 25 percent as part of wide-ranging reforms aimed at producing more professional and less politicized armed forces. Some 6,500 posts are to be phased out in all.
