Indonesia launches drive against East Timor rebels

Indonesia's armed forces have mounted an offensive against guerrillas fighting for the independence of East Timor. An unidentified diplomat said Thursday that 20,000 troops were taking part in the military operation in the former Portuguese colony annexed by Indonesia in 1976.
