College graduates of '83 face declining job market

This year's crop of US college graduates is 41 percent less likely to be offered a job than were their predecessors two years ago, a study said. The situation has ''seriously deteriorated'' in the past six months, hitting engineering graduates with bachelor's degrees particularly hard, according to the Endicott Report, a national survey published by Northwestern University.

While some defense and high-technology industries are going against the trend and continuing to hire, other firms have completely eliminated their recruiting efforts, the study said.
