A good warmup includes every type of shot

Not many players realize it, but tennis matches are often won or lost in the warmup. Be sure to do stretching exercises before you hit any strokes. If your court time is limited, it makes sense to limber up in the locker room.

Once on the court, hit every type of shot you'll hit during real play. Don't neglEect a shot you don't particularly like, such as the overhead. A smart opponent will test you on it early in the match.

Serve to both sides of the opposite court. It's actually a much-violated rule of the game that all practice serves must be taken before play begins, and there's no stroke more important to warm up.

A good warmup can mean a fast start in a match, and in weekend tennis that can mean victory.
