Shultz arrives in Thailand to hear ASEAN views

Secretary of State George Shultz said on arrival in Bangkok Sunday he had come to the Thai capital to learn Southeast Asian views on Vietnam and Kampuchea.

Mr. Shultz is to meet with foreign ministers from ASEAN - Thailand, Singapore , Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia - who just ended their annual meeting here. ASEAN is trying to secure the withdrawal of Vietnam's 180,000 occupation troops from Kampuchea.

After his meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines Saturday , Mr. Shultz praised Mr. Marcos's economic austerity moves and said they would help return the Philippines to economic health.
